- When the measurement is found (in inches), divide that number by 2.5 and the resulting number will be proper draw length. For instance, my wingspan is 72.75 inches, so 72.75/2.5 is 29.1” and I shoot a 29” draw length.

How to Choose the Right Recurve Bow String Length
Important: Bow length and actual string length are different measurements.
A bow marked 68 inches does not normally use a string that is 68 inches long. The correct string length depends on your bow design, limb model, and the manufacturer's specifications.
Step 1: Check Your Bow Length
Find the bow length marked on your bow or in its product manual. Common recurve bow lengths include 58", 60", 62", 64", 66", 68", and 70".
Step 2: Check Your Original String
If your current string fits correctly, check whether its length is marked on the packaging or product label. This is often a better starting point than estimating from bow length alone.
Step 3: Confirm the Actual Physical Length
Our strings are sold by actual physical length, not AMO nominal string length. If you measure an existing string, use the same measurement method specified by the seller and confirm whether the measurement is taken under tension or with the string relaxed.
Approximate Bow Length Reference
The following table helps you identify your bow size. It does not guarantee the correct actual string length for every bow.
| Marked Bow Length | What to Do Before Ordering |
|---|---|
| 58"–60" | Check the original string length and bow model |
| 62"–64" | Confirm the required length for your specific limbs |
| 66"–68" | Check the manufacturer's string-length specification |
| 70" and above | Confirm the exact string length and compatibility before ordering |
Beginner Tip: If you cannot find the required string length, contact us before purchasing. Send us your bow model, marked bow length, draw weight, and a photo of your original string or its packaging if available.
How to Choose the Right Strand Count
This bowstring is available in 12, 14, and 16 strands. The appropriate option depends on more than draw weight alone.
| Strand Count | Selection Guidance |
|---|---|
| 12 strands | Consider only if recommended for your specific bow and Dacron string setup |
| 14 strands | Choose when supported by your bow manufacturer's specifications |
| 16 strands | Choose for bows that require or permit this strand configuration |
Important: There is no universal strand-count rule based only on draw weight. Always follow the bow manufacturer's recommendations for string material and strand count. If you are unsure, ask us to help confirm compatibility before ordering.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Bow length and string length are different. Check the required string length for your bow model and confirm whether the measurement uses AMO nominal length or actual physical length.
Q2: How do I measure my existing bowstring?
Follow the measurement method specified by the seller. A relaxed string and a string measured under tension may give different readings. If you are unsure, send us a photo and your bow details before ordering.
Q3: Which strand count should I choose for my bow?
Choose 12, 14, or 16 strands according to the manufacturer's specifications for your bow model, draw weight, and Dacron string setup. Do not select strand count based on draw weight alone.
Q4: Can I customize the color and length?
Yes. Choose from 8 stock colors or ask about a custom color and actual physical string length.
Q5: Is this bowstring suitable for every recurve bow?
Not necessarily. Compatibility depends on the bow design, required string length, limb specifications, and recommended string material. Confirm these details before purchasing.
